Canvas Tab Description

Canvas Tab offers a comprehensive image editor with mask support, featuring nodes for receiving and sending images to the editor, enabling seamless image manipulation within the extension.

Canvas Tab Introduction

The canvas_tab extension is a powerful tool designed to enhance your image editing experience within ComfyUI. It provides a full-page editor that runs in a separate tab, allowing you to work on multiple images simultaneously. This extension is particularly useful for AI artists who need a flexible and efficient way to manage and edit their artwork. Whether you're working on inpainting, creating scribble-based images, or simply need a robust image editing tool, canvas_tab offers a range of features to streamline your workflow and improve your creative process.

How Canvas Tab Works

The canvas_tab extension operates through two main nodes: Edit in another Tab and Send to Editor Tab. These nodes are found in the images submenu of ComfyUI. Here's a simple breakdown of how it works:

  1. Edit in another Tab: This input node allows you to send an image to a new tab for editing. Once the image is in the new tab, you can use various tools to modify it.
  2. Send to Editor Tab: This output node sends the edited image back to the main interface of ComfyUI. The extension can be set to trigger a queue on change, ensuring that only one queued entry is processed at a time. This helps maintain a smooth workflow without overwhelming the system.

Canvas Tab Features

Multi-Image Editing

You can edit multiple images at once, making it easy to manage complex projects. Drag images around with the middle mouse button and scale them using the mouse wheel.

Layer Management

  • Add Layers: You can add generated images as new layers, replace existing layers, or create entirely new images.
  • Delete Layers: Remove layers by clicking on the layer widget with Ctrl-LeftClick. The layer must be visible to prevent accidental deletions.
  • Duplicate Layers: Use the Duplicate Layer button or Ctrl-Click to duplicate the target layer.

Palette Management

  • Reassign Colors: Ctrl-click on palette entries to reassign the palette color to the current color.
  • Set Foreground Color: Middle-click on palette entries to set the palette color to the current foreground color.

Hotkeys

  • B: Brush tool
  • E: Erase tool
  • Z: Pixel editing tool
  • P: Color Picker
  • T: Layer transformation (scale and rotate)
  • [ and ]: Decrease and increase brush radius
  • BackSpace: Clear a layer
  • ALT_BackSpace: Fill the layer with the foreground color
  • CTRL_Backspace: Fill the layer with the background color
  • CTRL_Z: Undo
  • CTRL_SHIFT_Z: Redo

User Interface

  • Green Tab: Click on the green tab on the side of images in the editor to highlight it. The highlighted image is sent through to the ComfyUI node.
  • Multiple Canvas Tab Nodes: If the title of the node and the title of the image in the editor are the same, the output of the canvas editor will be sent to that node.
